Assy Plateau generously gives calm, peace and beauty of its landscapes to everyone who comes here. A huge plateau extends in all directions of the world at an altitude of 3000 meters above sea level. It offers a beautiful view of the Turgen Gorge, which is especially bright and pronounced in the summer, the endless expanses of the lowlands cut by the Chilik River, which is located along the gorge with a “snake”. This is a great place to relax and put your thoughts in order.
Issyk (another name for the lake is Yesik, which means “door” in Kazakh) is a picturesque, high-mountain lake surrounded by the unusually beautiful nature of dense forests and wide flower fields. The lake is located at an altitude of 1760 meters above sea level, in the Issyk gorge of the Zailiysky Alatau, about 70 km east of Almaty.
In 1963, a powerful mudflow erupted from the glacier zone in the upper reaches of the Issyk River, whose huge waves destroyed the natural dam and the lake was empty in four hours. This tragedy, according to official statistics, claimed more than a hundred lives. Now, on a mountain slope near the lake, a cross puting in memory of the dead. The memory of the tragedy still makes hearts contract. In addition, the young trees sprouted on the once former bottom of the lake, the ruins on the lower bank and huge boulders are a constant reminder of what happened.
The Bear Falls is located in a deep rocky niche, on the southern slope of the Karash ridge, from where the Medvezhiy stream flows from under the Zhambas pass. Its height is 28 meters.
The State Historical and Cultural Reserve Museum "Issyk", located near the eponymous district center - a place significant in many respects. For example, here is located one of the largest in the region complex of Saka royal mounds, from which, in spite of everything, much remains. In addition, this place became the site of the greatest archaeological discovery on the territory of Kazakhstan - we are talking about the famous "Golden Man".
The length of the route is 236 km (20% of the mountain road).
Travel Program:
Day 1.
  • 08:00 - departure from Almaty to the Golden Man Museum. Travel time is 1 hour.
  • From 09:00 to 09:30 - visit to the museum.
  • 10:30 - arrival to Issyk Lake.
  • 11:00 - transfer to the Bear Falls.
  • 12:00 - trekking to the Bear Falls (800m), upon returning - a small picnic.
  • 13:00 - departure to the plateau "Assy", travel time 1 hour 20min.
  • 15:30 - departure to the city of Almaty.
  • 18:00 - arrival in the city of Almaty.
Visiting season is from May to November.
